The former cricketer Brian Lara said on Tuesday that Jaiswal is a very able batter who can, play in any conditions” though there would be some psychological changes to be made during the tour of Australia. This year Jaiswal has also proved how vital he is to the Test squad scoring 929 runs this year in eight Tests, at an average of 66.35 which includes two centuries and six fifties making him the highest scorer of runs for India in the year 2024. “He has got the ability to play in any conditions. I saw him in the Caribbean. Obviously, the pitches in Australia are slightly different but if you’ll take that sort of strength that you have, then you are going to play well in any conditions
He’s got the ability to withstand that sort of pressure, Lara said. ‘I expect him to perform, not just make the trip,’ Lara told journalists at the launch of the International Masters League.
The great West Indies player said a couple of factors will come into play for Jaiswal to remain successful in Australia.
“I think the adjustment is upstairs,” Lara said pointing to his head when asked would the Indian opener have make any changes.
“The adjustment is your ability to back your talent in whatever conditions. I say this with a pinch of salt because conditions in India have changed.
“Thanks to the IPL, there are players from all over the world. You are exposing your players to a higher degree of competition, which is good, so I do not believe there is a lot he needs to work on in terms of technique,” he said.
“I just think, mentally, going away from home, playing Australia in Australia is another monster. But I believe that the Indian team, which I have watched in the past couple of tours where they went to Australia, is more than able to win,” he remarked.
Kanpur Test against Bangladesh held a special memory as former West Indies captain Brian Lara defended India’s approach to manipulate the situation keeping the rain interruptions in mind with the intent of gaining WTC points. Contrastingly, Lara stated it is not possible every time.
“(It was) simply (because) points were not the only Consideration. It is a situation where India understands best that the playing field is tilted in their favor considering that they are the superior team and then aimed it above themselves,” he added.
“They’ve got to create the chance for themselves. I enjoy the way that they did it in such a short period of time putting pressure on Bangladesh. The strategy by India in batting has always been to pressure Bangladesh.” “Test matches are like a test of patience and endurance. You will not have guarantees that you will not play for two to three days every other day. I expect many matches to reach the latter stages of the fourth and the fifth day. I do not expect batters to give up easily, instead they should bat if they have to. Bowlers should be at their utmost discipline.” “That Test match was a Test match where India had the confidence that paying off that effort would provide a win. But that would not always be the case,” Lara stated.
