Yashasvi Jaiswal gets schooled from England great amid poor form

It looked as though Yashasvi Jaiswal had prepared something special against Mitchell Starc’s new ball threat; but an over and a couple of deliveries into India’s innings of the ongoing third Test against Australia, Starc had Jaiswal caught at forward square leg. Early in the morning session on Day 3, after getting bowled out against Australia for 445, Jaiswal was taking throw-downs ahead of the start of the innings. He flicked one toward the Australian team’s huddle, but it clipped the leg of Cricket Australia’s camera man.

After that, Jaiswal found himself being slyly mocked by former England captain Michael Vaughan after the young lad could not replicate his throwdown feats in the actual match.

“Five minutes before Jaiswal got out, this is the shot he practiced that whipped through mid-wicket, wonderful shot and good balance. And then you go into the match and it’s the same shot but he goes aerial, just flicks it. It was the pressure of the game, in practice it’s perfect,” was Vaughan’s voice-on-air observations.

And in fact, the former head coach of India, said, Ravi Shastri, was also aghast and found it difficult to believe over the dismissal stating how Jaiswal could find the only fielder in that place when he had plenty of room to pick his gap.

“Can you imagine the catch would be there? The man just in front of the square, acres of space on the on side and Jaiswal hits it straight to the fielder,” Shastri observed.

In fact, rain disrupted play during the third session of Day 3 during the ongoing Test match at The Gabba, India still 394 runs behind Australia’s total. The visitors are quaking at Stumps on Day 3 while trying to rescue their innings from the pulse-quickening 51/4 score with right-hand batter KL Rahul (33) and team skipper Rohit Sharma (0) still remaining at the crease.

The Rohit Sharma-led side resumed the third session from 48/4, trailing by 397 runs, with KL Rahul and skipper Rohit Sharma not out on 30 (52) and 0 (1), respectively. Most part of the session was a washout; rain continued throughout the session.

There were only three overs in this last session of the day, during which time India could only score three runs.
