Yash Dayal, a cricketer for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), has asked the Allahabad High Court to halt his arrest. This comes after Ghaziabad Police filed charges against him, alleging he mentally and physically exploited a woman using the false promise of marriage, as reported by The Indian Express.
Police charged the cricketer under Section 69 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which deals with sexual relations obtained through deception, involving a false marriage promise, after the woman filed a complaint.
In his written request to the court, the cricketer denied any intimate relationship with the woman. The petition stated that, as per the First Information Report (FIR), the accuser admitted that his parents treated her like a daughter-in-law, suggesting he never meant to deceive her. The petition claims her attitude shifted over time, leading him to decide against marriage and end the relationship, the report noted.
The petition also argued that even if her claims are factual, his actions would only represent a broken promise, not a false one from the beginning. The report mentioned the petition clarified that Dayal did not become friends with or start a relationship with the woman under the pretense of marriage. It began as a friendship, but soured because of the accuser, the petition mentioned.
The woman previously said she has a lot of proof against Dayal in the form of chat logs, screenshots, video calls, and photos. She said Dayal presented her to his family as their daughter-in-law.
According to a message sent to the local police station and police superintendent’s office from the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister’s website, the woman claimed that she had been in a relationship with the cricketer for five years. She accused him of taking advantage of her emotionally, mentally, and physically by deceiving her with a marriage promise. She stated that he passed her off to his family and acted like a husband, leading to complete trust from her. She said that when she learned of this deception and spoke out, she faced physical violence and mental abuse and was also taken advantage of financially and emotionally.
The complaint also stated that the man has a pattern of similar lies in relationships with other women.
