It looks like the former India wicketkeeper-batter might step in as the Bengal U-23 coach, replacing Pranab Roy. The Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) hasn’t made a final call yet, but sources say they’ve had some casual talks with Saha, who seems interested in the role.
Saha, a veteran of 40 Tests, hung up his boots earlier this year and has been busy coaching young players at his academy since then. He was offered a fielding coach position with the Kolkata Knight Riders for this year’s Indian Premier League, but turned it down, feeling he wasn’t up for it just yet.
In an interview with Sportstar earlier this year, he explained that he wanted to be fully ready before taking on a coaching job. “I’ve always thought you should be well-prepared and in the right headspace to take on any role to succeed,” he said. He acknowledged that turning down the KKR assistant coach spot was tough since it was a great opportunity.
If Saha does become the U-23 coach, the young cricketers in the state could really learn a lot from his experience. He’s also recently been named the mentor for Siliguri Strikers in the Bengal Pro T20 League, which kicks off next month.
