“Would have got…”Aakash Chopra’s Take on Sarfaraz Khan’s IPL Contract

Team India’s star middle-order batsman, Sarfraz Khan, has been in the buzz ever since he made his debut for India against England in the ongoing series.

Sarfraz Khan continued his golden run with the bat as the batter scored 56 of just 60 balls, including eight boundaries and one six, helping India reach 473/8 at the end of day two, taking a lead of 255 runs on the visitors.

The Mumbaikar failed to renew his IPL contract despite his prolific run in the domestic circuit. Sarfraz Khan was unsold in the 2024 IPL auction.

Speaking on the same topic, Aakash Chopra said he is not at all surprised that Sarfraz Khan was not able to get an IPL contract because of his struggle with form in the previous season.

In his interaction with Jio cenima, Aakash Chopra said, “I am personally not that surprised, or I would say that I am as surprised as I am with the fact that Pat Cummins got 20.50 crore rupees. Recency bias is a very important thing. If the auction had been tomorrow, he would have gotten a contract.”

“However, the auction should be dependent on how you have played in the last five to seven years in that format and in that tournament. Sarfaraz has had a contract since he was 18 years old. He has played for two or three franchises.”

Speaking of Sarfraz Khan IPL numbers, the Mumbaikar has played 50 matches in the IPL, scoring 585 runs at a modest average of 22.5. Sarfraz Khan last played in the IPL 2022 for the Delhi Capitals, scoring only 53 runs in four outings.
