Former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra has raised doubts about Hardik Pandya potentially transferring from the Gujarat Titans (GT) to the Mumbai Indians (MI) if he is not appointed as the captain.
Pandya first made his IPL appearance with MI and experienced a prosperous tenure with them. However, after playing several seasons, he went to GT before the IPL 2022 auction. Recent reports indicate that the all-rounder is set to rejoin his previous franchise ahead of the IPL 2024.
While talking to his official YouTube channel, Aakash Chopra raised the question if Gujarat Titans will be willing to release Hardik Pandya, and even if Pandya joins Mumbai, would he be appointed as captain of the side?
“A rumor is doing the rounds that Hardik is moving towards Mumbai. It has been heard, but no confirmation has come. If he is leaving, firstly Gujarat is releasing him – won once and reached the final once. If he is leaving, will he be made Mumbai’s captain? Why would you go if you are not being made the captain?”
The former Indian opener remained uncertain about whether Rohit Sharma would switch to the Titans under those circumstances.
“I have not heard the end or the start of this story properly. So I am waiting and watching that what happens there because it seems like something will happen. There is no smoke without fire and there is smoke for sure that Hardik is going. However, will Rohit Sharma go to GT? Is that a possibility – I don’t know.”
