The former Indian wicket-keeper Parthiv Patel has said that only MS Dhoni can settle the speculations regarding his future in the Indian Premier League. Despite being ahead of the IPL 2024 season, discussions and rumors are circulating about the possibility of this being the last season for the Chennai Super Kings captain.
The anticipation surrounding MS Dhoni’s comeback after last year’s exhilarating final has been a major topic of discussion ahead of the upcoming season. As the joint-most successful captain in IPL history, Dhoni continues to command one of the largest fan bases in the league. The MA Chidambaram Stadium is expected to echo with excitement as the star player will return to the forte after a year.
While talking about the possibilities of Dhoni’s retirement, Parthiv Patel said, “Coming off to play once every 10 months, every time we end up talking about these two months being his (Dhoni’s) last of cricket…This is a question that only he can answer.”
Parthiv asserted that the upcoming season will present another significant test for MS Dhoni’s batting skills, particularly due to the limited exposure to competitive cricket he has had recently.
“Over the course of these sixteen IPL seasons, we have seen big names who have not played a lot of domestic or any other format of cricket, end up struggling in the tournament…We have seen it happen with players like Mathew Hayden and Adam Gilchrist,” Parthiv added.
