Ahead of the 2024 T20I World Cup, the biggest headache for Indian cricket management is the selection of a proper wicketkeeper batter. India is currently giving all the chances to Jitesh Sharma who has shown some remarkable stuff during the last season with Punjab Kings and also with his debut for India.
Meanwhile, the head coach of the Indian team, Rahul Dravid has made it clear that both Ishan Kishan and Rishabh Pant are the contenders to be part of the T20I World Cup 2024. The event will take place in June this year, jointly hosted by the West Indies and the USA.
Kishan, who was a regular member of the Indian squad across all three formats until the South Africa tour, unexpectedly found himself excluded from consideration after opting to depart from the Indian team and travel to Dubai, citing mental fatigue.
Dravid mentioned that players like Kishan, along with Jitesh Sharma and Sanju Samson, are being considered for a spot in India’s T20 World Cup squad. Interestingly, Dravid also included KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant in the list.
“We’ve got quite a few keeping options. We saw a couple of guys in this series, whether it is Sanju or Jitesh. You speak about Rahul, there is Ishan, Rishabh… all of them are in the mix. We just have to see how things pan out in the course of next few months and then we can take a call on what’s the best way to go,” he said after India’s thrilling win in the final T20I in Bengaluru.
