Will India’s Men And Women Cricket Team Join The Asian Games 2023? BCCI Provided Big Update Regarding This

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has refused to send both men’s and women’s cricket teams to the Asian Games to be held in Hangzhou, China, this year.

BCCI has taken this decision after looking at the busy cricket schedule of both teams. Asian Games 2022 were to be held in China only last year. But, these games could not be organized last year under China’s Zero Covid policy. Asian Games will be held from 23 September to 28 October, and cricket will be organized in T20 format.

India’s Chef de Mission for the Asian Games, Bhupender Bajwa, in a conversation with a media house, has given the reason behind the BCCI not sending the Indian cricket team to China. Bajwa has confirmed that India will participate in almost every sport except cricket.

Chef de Mission Bhupender Bajwa said, “Except for one game (cricket), we have received entries in all sports. Cricket teams will be busy in other tournaments. We sent them three-four emails. But, when we had to send entries to the organizers that how many players and teams from India will participate, they (BCCI) said they would not go.”

According to media reports, the information was received from the Olympic Association a day before the deadline for sending the entry to the BCCI, and the schedule of the Indian cricket team had already been finalized.

A BCCI official associated with the development said, “We received the mail from IOA just a day before the deadline. At the same time, the FTP for women’s cricket has already been finalized by the BCCI. Our team will not be available during the Asian Games. Because they will be playing in a tournament.”
