Will India Get Any Substitute For Ashwin In Rajkot Test? Check Out The ICC Rule

Team India is up against England for the third test match of the series in Rajkot. After a couple of days being passed in the test match, the match hangs in balance; however, ahead of the start of the third test match, Team India’s fortunes in the match have been dealt a huge blow.

Ahead of day three of the Rajkot test match, India’s ace spinner Ravi Ashwin has withdrawn from the third test match with immediate effect due to a medical emergency in his family.

Ashwin had to return to his hometown of Chennai as his mother had been admitted to the hospital. BCCI extended their full support to the ace spinner, who claimed his 500th test wicket on day two of the Rajkot test match.

As the spinners start to come into play from day three in the subcontinent, Ashwin was expected to play a huge role in team India’s success, with England still trailing by more than 200 runs.

In an official statement, BCCI said, “Ravichandran Ashwin has withdrawn from India’s Test squad immediately due to a family medical emergency. In these tough times, the Board of Control for Cricket in India and the team fully extend their support to Ashwin.”

The BCCI extends its heartfelt support to the veteran cricketer and his family. The health and well-being of the players and their family members are of the utmost importance. The Board requests respect for the privacy of the ace spinner and his family as they pass through this challenging time.

Now the question arises: will India play only with 10 players?

So as per the rules, India will take the field without their complete playing XI. The home team will get a substitute fielder, but that player will not be allowed to bat or bowl.

According to the ICC rules, the umpires can allow a substitute fielder if any player from the playing XI is unavailable due to an injury, illness, or any other reason.

The substitute fielder included in the playing 11 can keep wickets but is not allowed to bat or bowl.
