Asia Cup this year is certainly going through some hardships as a consequence of the terrorist attack that took place in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir. According to reports, the attack has added to the escalation of hostility between India and Pakistan ever since on April 22, in which 26 tourists were killed tragically. The Indian government is doing that to isolate Pakistan, both politically and in sports. The Indian government is trying its level best to cut ties as much as possible.
According to The Times of India, there was a possibility that the Asia Cup will be postponed. It is set to be held at a neutral venue immediately after the Bangladesh series in September, but no venue has been confirmed yet. According to sources close to the situation, however, postponement seems very likely as cricket between India and Pakistan really isn’t feasible at this moment.
The report also said that India is likely to abstain from the traveling tour of Bangladesh, especially after some of the much-criticized statements from a retired Bangladeshi army officer regarding the northeastern states of India. This tour is still on the calendar, but the matter is still up in the air. The possibility of India skipping the ODIs and T20s is pretty high due to the situation at this time.
Nothing has been finalized as regards the dates and venue of the Asia Cup. If it happens, it is likely to be in a hybrid format. Since India is hosting, Pakistan may play their matches in Sri Lanka or the UAE.
