Why Is Ishan Kishan Not Playing In The 3rd ODI Against Australia?

India and Australia are facing each other in the third game of the three-match ODI series. In this match, Indian skipper Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have returned after resting in the first two ODIs of the series. Apart from Rohit and Virat, India has made some other changes as well. Kuldeep Yadav has also got a chance, on the other hand, Ashwin has been rested while Washington Sundar has come in place of the veteran Indian off-spinner.

In this match, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma will open the innings for India as Ishan Kishan is not playing. During the toss, Indian captain Rohit Sharma confirmed the absence of the wicketkeeper-batter and explained the reason for it. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) issued a statement addressing this matter.

“Update: Ishan Kishan was unavailable for selection for the 3rd ODI due to an illness,” the BCCI statement said.

A day before the game, Indian skipper Rohit Sharma already confirmed that many of the players will spend some time with their families while a few players are suffering from viral infections.

Rohit Sharma said, “We have got a lot of players who are sick and not available, a lot of players have personal problems so they have gone home and a few of the guys have been rested as well. Obviously, Gill has been rested, and Shami, Hardik, and Shardul have all gone home…again, personal things. Axar, obviously, is not available for this game.”

“Additionally, four local state players Dharmendra Jadeja, Prerak Mankad, Vishwaraj Jadeja, and Harvik Desai will support the team for drinks and fielding throughout the match,” the statement added.
