Why did BCCI move the IPL final out of Kolkata? Check out the reason

The IPL 2025 playoffs and final will be held at new venues. Originally, Hyderabad and Kolkata were set to host these games, but after a one-week pause in the tournament, Mullanpur and Ahmedabad will take over for the playoffs.

The BCCI shared that after 70 exciting league matches filled with action, the New PCA Stadium in New Chandigarh will host Qualifier 1 on Thursday, May 29, showcasing the top two teams. This will be followed by the Eliminator on Friday, May 30.

Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium, the biggest cricket stadium around, will hold Qualifier 2 and the final. Qualifier 2, which is between the loser of Qualifier 1 and the winner of the Eliminator, is scheduled for Sunday, June 1, while the grand final to crown the IPL champion will be on Tuesday, June 3.

The BCCI explained the venue changes, saying they took into account the weather and other factors. There’s also a venue switch for Match No. 65, where Royal Challengers Bengaluru will now face Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow due to bad weather in Bengaluru. To accommodate this, an extra hour will be added to the playing conditions for the remaining league matches starting Tuesday, May 20.
