Who’s Yash Thakur? The Journey of the Pacer Who Claimed the First Five-Wicket Haul in IPL 2024

Lucknow Super Giants must have been under the pump when their star pacer Mayank Yadav walked off from the field, bowling just one over in the match. Lucknow had just 163 runs to defend against the Gujarat Titans.

Mayank Yadav, who was player of the match in LSG’s previous encounter because of his bowling, left the groin with a side strain. The Gujarat Titans saw this as a chance, as was the case with young LSG pacer Yash Thakur. 

Yash Thakur was brought to bowl the final over of the powerplay, and he immediately got rid of Shubman Gill when the Gujarat Titans were on song, chasing 164.

Who’s Yash Thakur?

Yash, who idolized Umesh Yadav, who plays for Vidarbha in domestic format. Yash was simply impressed with Umesh’s bowling and decided to follow in his footsteps. Yash also plays for Vidarbha, the same team for which Umesh Yadav plays.

In his early cricketing days, Yash Thakur wanted to become wicketkeeper; however, it was Vidarbha’s former captain and coach, Praveen Hinganikar, who saw his potential in bowling and requested that he focus on pace bowling.

Yash Thakur inspiration was Ms. Dhoni, and Praveen had a tough task in hand to ask the young player to persuade pace bowling; yash Thakur however went ahead with pace bowling.

Yash Thakur has played 22 first-class matches and has picked up 67 wickets. Yash has also played 37 list-A matches, picking up 54 wickets. Yash has also picked up 69 wickets in 48 wickets.

Lucknow Super Giants brought up the pacer ahead of IPL 2023 for 45 lakh.
