Who will replace Virat Kohli once the king retires? Former Indian spinner picks these two as his successor

The apex of monarchy lies with him. Even though age might become a factor one day; Virat Kohli has shown that he is destined to remain at the top as long as he continues playing cricket. But what will happen when the monarch abdicates? Who will occupy that position?

Former Indian spinner Piyush Chawla spoke out on the subject.

Chawla, who is still finding success in franchise cricket, managed to have a comparatively fruitful season for himself while playing for Mumbai Indians in IPL 2024 where they were unsuccessful and acquired 13 wickets from 11 matches thus becoming MI’s tied-second highest wicket taker.

Chawla, who is also a 2011 World Cup winner, knows quite well about the greatness of Virat Kohli having played alongside him and against him in different formats and was asked who could probably take over from the Indian great.

He narrated to Shubhankar Mishra on his YouTube channel that he has someone in mind to replace Kohli when he retires from International Cricket.

“Shubman Gill. Due to the kind of technique that he possesses,” Chawla added without any hesitation.

“Well, a batter who is going through a rough patch always has to depend on his technique to come out of such situations. If you see, no batsman with an excellent method will have a long bad run.”

However, Chawla did not stop at Gill. In fact, there was another pick that slipped through his lips just like that.

“Shubman Gill is definitely up there for me too as Chawla stated Ruturaj Gaikwad”; (Chawla).

While Ruturaj Gaikwad was making his T20I and ODI debuts for India soon after IPL success, it has been rough seas for the batter from CSK since he has not had a regular place in Men in Blue’s team across all formats and has been suffering from injuries every now and then.

That this is the way cricket works, as unfortunate as it may seem to Chawla.

“The game involves such things”, explained Chawla during an interview with a local media. Sometimes when chances come, which is not always the case, then unfortunately they just go with no luck,” reiterated her friend.

“But anyway, these two should take over once Virat Kohli retires” in my opinion.
