The 17th match of IPL 2024, between Gujarat Titans and Punjab Kings was an absolute thriller. Despite Shubman Gill’s unbeaten 89 guiding Gujarat Titans to 199/4 in 20 overs, most of the Punjab Kings’ top batsmen struggled to score.
However, Shashank Singh had other plans. The domestic cricket sensation smashed an unbeaten 61 runs off 29 balls, including four sixes and six fours, leading his team to a remarkable victory in the final over against GT. Despite the presence of stars like Shikhar Dhawan and Sam Curran in the team, it was Shashank Singh who came with all guns and blazes for Punjab Kings.
Shashank Singh’s auction selection sparked considerable controversy. During the IPL 2024 auction, Punjab Kings co-owners Preity Zinta and Ness Wadia seemed uncertain after successfully bidding for the uncapped Indian player, Shashank Singh. It seemed that the IPL franchise had not planned to acquire the player, but by then the bid had already been accepted.
At the IPL 2024 auction, the auctioneer, Mallika Sagar, seemed a bit taken aback as the PBKS management looked over the players available. Despite this, PBKS went ahead with the purchase and welcomed Shashank Singh to their team in a post on X.
Punjab Kings later said that, getting Shashank Singh was always there in their head.
Two players of similar names on the IPL list created confusion. I am delighted to share that the right Shashank Singh has been onboarded. He has put out some noteworthy performances, and we're ready to unleash his talent.
