Rohit Sharma will be captaining Team India in the 2022 T20 World Cup for the first time, making it a special tournament for him (ICC event). Following Virat Kohli’s departure following the 2021 T20 World Cup in the United Arab Emirates, Rohit was named India’s T20I captain (UAE).
India is on the verge of qualifying for the world tournament’s semifinals after defeating Zimbabwe to advance as group winners. Roger Binny, the president of the BCCI, gave his opinion on Rohit’s captaincy prior to India’s crucial match on Sunday (November 6) at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) and refrained from equating him with earlier greats like MS Dhoni.
Binny speaking to reporters outside the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association’s 90th annual day, he said, “Rohit is an experienced player. He has played so many matches and been in so many situations. Everyone has a different approach. Dhoni is totally different, you can’t compare him, Kapil or Gavaskar. Each one has a different way of how they operate.”
BCCI President added, “Talking about India’s chances at lifting the T20 World Cup, Binny highlighted the need for openers to give India a quick start and make full use of the powerplay. “Rohit is an experienced player. He has played so many matches and been in so many situations. Everyone has a different approach. Dhoni is totally different, you can’t compare him, Kapil or Gavaskar. Each one has a different way of how they operate.”
He concluded, “Most teams prefer to chase down the total because the wickets are such, it keeps getting slower and slower as the game goes on.”
Binny was a crucial member of the 1983 World Cup-winning Indian team. He really had the most wickets in the competition for the Kapil Dev-led team.
