Star Indian batter Shreyas Iyer has been out from the team for some months. He got an injury in his lower back before the IPL 2023 and after that, he missed the whole tournament where Nitish Rana was assigned the captaincy duties in place of Iyer.
Team India has to play many important series in upcoming months, of which Asia Cup 2023 and 50-over World Cup are the prime ones. However, there is no sign of Iyer making a comeback to the team according to his latest statement. Iyer is currently in National Cricket Academy(NCA) going through his rehab but he did not talk about his return date when asked by the media.
According to a report by OutlookIndia.com, the KKR captain said, “Whenever I walk back from training there are people waiting outside, wanting to take pictures. And they all ask, ‘When are you coming back?’ I don’t know when I’ll be back.”
After being ruled out from the IPL 2023 and then the World Test Championship, Iyer went through surgery in London. BCCI members are also worried due to the slow recovery of Iyer. He is batting in nets but looking at his condition he seems not to be fully fit. The reports claim that despite having his surgery, he still finds pain in his back.
“Iyer’s progress is slow but we are still hopeful that he will recover by the World Cup. But at this moment, it’s not a certainty with Iyer,” a senior BCCI official told InsideSport earlier this month.
