Rohit Sharma stated that he will maintain his approach even though India lost to Sri Lanka by 32 runs on Sunday (August 3) at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. India was chasing a target of 241, and they were doing well after Rohit and Shubman Gill added 97 runs for the first wicket in 13.3 overs. Jeffrey Vandersay ended their partnership by dismissing Rohit, who was caught by Pathum Nissanka while attempting a reverse hit.
Rohit scored his half-century in 29 balls and continued to make 64 runs in 44 balls, hitting five fours and four sixes. Gill was Vandersay’s second wicket in the 18th over, and from that point, India struggled and were all out for 208 in 42.2 overs. Rohit said that he will not change his batting style regardless of the match’s circumstances.
“I scored 65 runs because of how I played. When I play like that, there’s always some risk involved, and I’m okay with taking those risks. No matter if you get out after scoring 100, 50, or none, you feel upset if you don’t win. But that won’t change my approach,” Rohit said after the game.
Rohit also said that India didn’t play well with the bat. Earlier, Washington Sundar took three wickets and helped the team limit the other side to 240 for nine. But India couldn’t handle Vandersay, who ended with figures of 10-0-33-6.
“We didn’t play good cricket, so we lost. We know what this field is like and how the game will go. It gets very hard in the middle part of the game. So you need to score as many runs as you can in the early part of the game. That’s what both openers were trying to do. But we just didn’t play well enough today,” Rohit added.
The third match of the series is scheduled to be played on August 7 in Colombo.
