What is the Story Behind Joe Root’s Viral ‘Pinky Finger’ Gesture To Ben Stokes?

England and India are currently involved in an intense battle in the longest format of the game in Ranchi. The visitors won the toss and elected to bat first.

However, the decision to bat first proved costly for England, as half of the side was back in the dugout with just 112 on the board.
But it was England’s stalwart Joe Root who scored a prolific hundred in the fourth test after being out of runs for the first three test matches of the series.

Joe Root remained not out on 106 after the end of the day’s play, but one thing that caught the attention of everyone was Joe Root’s pinky finger celebration, which he did towards Ben Stokes in the dugout.

This gesture from Joe Root became popular in the 2022 Edgbaston Test, which reflected the bonding between Root and skipper Ben Stokes.

Well, this is not the first time Joe Root has done the pinky finger celebration. The Root’s celebration is said to be inspired by American singer Elvis Presley’s song, which starred Austin Butler.

After Joe Root smashed 100 in Edgbaston, he said, “I don’t think I’ll ever be able to feel or look like a rockstar, but for 10 seconds I might have done; that’s what the little pinkie was about. Ben watched the Elvis Presley film the other day, and he’s been doing that all week, so it was a little tribute to him.”.

England are currently placed comfortably with 302/7 on the board as Joe Root (106) is batting along with Ollie Robinson (31).
