What Happened During 2002 IND vs WI Match? Chris Gayle Recalls An Incident With Virendra Sehwag

Chris Gayle, an explosive opener for the West Indies, is currently playing with the Gujarat Giants in the Legends League Cricket in India. Gayle, who retired from T20Is after the World Cup last year, missed the Indian Premier League this season because he didn’t sign up for the mega auction. But Gayle did play in the Bangladesh Premier League and the West Indies’ “6ixty,” a T10 tournament.

For many years, Gayle was a crucial member of the West Indies team. When he visited Jodhpur for a leg of the Legends League Cricket, the former Windies star recalled a match he played there against India at the Barkatullah Khan Stadium and discussed it with Sehwag.

In a 2002 match between India and West Indies at the same location, Gayle hit 27 runs as India bowled the visitors out for 201. With 22 balls left, India successfully defended the mark thanks to half-centuries from Rahul Dravid and Yuvraj Singh.

Gayle remembered the match and was talking about it during a conversation. He said, “20 years is a long time. Sehwag didn’t even remember it. We were talking about it and then we googled the scorecard. It was actually a low-scoring game and India had won it. But honestly, that match is now pretty exciting to us because we are back to the same city.”

He further added, ” “I remember the series in 2002. We had lost in Jodhpur and the series was level at 3-3, but then we won the series. We sort of forget these things with time but when I came here, every thing from that series came back to my mind.”

Gujarat Giants, who have already advanced to the tournament’s playoff round, are captained by Sehwag in the Legends League of Cricket.
