Ex-Zimbabwe cricketer Andy Flower supported Gautam Gambhir to have a successful period as a new head Coach of India’s cricket team. The board of control for the game in India (BCCI) indicated Gambhir as the new head Coach of Team India after Rahul Dravid’s departure from this position following their winning in T20 World Cup tournament.
Gambhir had always been favoured for the post ever since the BCCI has called for applications in May 2024. He saw to it that KKR won the last edition of IPL to bring to an end their trophy drought of ten years. Having seen Gambhir get appointed as India head coach, Flower teased saying that the former opener must now concentrate on playing Legends cricket leagues. Besides, he referred to him as a proud Indian whose enthusiasm for Indian cricket is unmatched.
“Well, the first thing he’s got to do is just give up his legends cricket at the moment. He’s quite a man Gautam Gambhir, I really enjoyed working with him. He’s got strong opinions, he’s got strong clear views on the game. He’s very decisive, he’s a very proud Indian, he loves Indian cricket and his position, representing Indian cricket. I think it’s a good appointment and I think he’s going to be successful,” said Andy Flower on Sony Sports.
Gambhir mentored the LSG to secure playoff in both IPL 2022 and 2023 edition. In addition, KKR won their third IPL title with his assistance in 2024. This great cricketer is expected to replicate his success at the international level too as India look forward to adding more silverware to their cabinet in near future.
