Taskin Ahmed believes that Bangladesh still has a chance to reach the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup 2024. The team is in a situation where they must win their upcoming important game against India, led by Rohit Sharma, on Saturday, June 22 at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in North Sound, Antigua.
In addition to playing India, Bangladesh will also play against Afghanistan, led by Rashid Khan, on Thursday. The team, led by Najmul Hossain Shanto, had a rough start in the second round, losing to Australia by 28 runs (according to the DLS method). However, Taskin is not giving up and wants Bangladesh to perform their best in their final two matches.
“Yes, we still have a chance. The playing field is good here. It will be tough, for sure. But we’re not losing hope. If we win both games, we can make it to the semi-finals. Even if it rains in the next game and we only get 1 point, we can still have a chance if we win the last game,” Taskin said before the match.
“We lost this one because our score was low. They played very strongly and did well. We’re hopeful that if we win the next game, things will change.”
Taskin mentioned that the Tigers must improve their batting and bowling skills to have a chance of moving to the semi-finals.
He said, “We need to do really well in both batting and bowling, especially in the next game. If we lose the next game, we won’t even think about reaching the semi-finals. So, the next game is very important for us. We need to do better in batting and bowling for that.”
Bangladesh has a poor record against India in T20Is, with only one win out of twelve matches. The only time they beat India was in 2019 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, when Mushfiqur Rahim’s unbeaten 60 helped them win by 7 wickets.
