“We could have assessed the pitch…” Varun Chakravarthy honest take on loss vs csk

KKR succumbed to their first-ever loss in this year’s IPL. Shreyas Iyer and company suffered a heavy defeat against the Chennai Super Kings by seven wickets.

However, after the match, KKR’s star spinner Varun Chakravarthy admitted that their team should have assessed the pitch better’ than the opposition.

KKR got off to a rampage, scoring 56/1 in the powerplay. After the powerplay was over, CSK squeezed KKR’s batting line-up through the middle overs. Chakravarthy feels that if KKR had scored 160–170, it would have been tough for CSK to chase it down.

In his post-match presentation, Varun Chakravarthy said, “We could have assessed the pitch better because it was staying low. It was tough to connect the shots, but I felt 160 would have been a par score.”

Varun Chakravarthy further added, “When I saw the pitch, I felt it was flat, but the way the track behaved was totally different. That can happen on any surface. 160–170 would have been a fighting total.”

Chakravarthy also shared his views on how dew made it difficult for KKR bowlers, especially spinners, to grip the ball.
Speaking about the same, Varun said, “There was a lot of dew in the second inning, and bowling to Dube was tough. The seam was very wet, and I could not grip the ball much.”
