Indian cricket team batter Yashasvi Jaiswal was left red-hot following a contentious DRS call at the end of the game on Day 5 of the fourth Test here in Melbourne on Monday. Jaiswal was looking brilliant against the Australia bowlers but his gritty knock came to an end when caught behind off the bowling of Pat Cummins. During the 71st over of India’s second innings, Jaiswal decided to pull a short delivery from Cummins. However, as the ball decelerated, it was processed by Alex Carey. Although the umpire thought it wasn’t an edge, the Australians looked confident and requested a review.
No spike on the snickometer or any distinct sound noted that the ball came in contact with Yashasvi’s bat. Seeing the contact with the bottoms of the gloves, however, the third umpire felt that, as per evidence, it on the clear deviation of the path of the ball. The third umpire had based on this for overturning the decision which led Yashasvi to indulge in some heated remarks with the on-field officials before leaving the ground.
While even Sunil Gavaskar, Deep Dasgupta and Irfan Pathan protested against the overthrow of the decision, Ricky Ponting said on commentary he believes there was absolutely no doubt about the dismissal.
Former indian cricketer ravichandran ashwin has posted few cryptic posts with the struggles of their skipper rohit sharma along with the entire indian side on day 5 of the fourth test of the border-gavaskar trophy at melbourne.
There was nothing to collect for Rohit, though he had put in all the hard yards into what eventually turned out as his return to the dressing room.
His nine runs came from 40 balls while successfully ducking and covering to a defensive posture, rather than going all guns blazing. After facing the new ball successfully, he decided it was time to hear Cummins roar.
The self-flick attempt earned a thick outside edge, which then went to gully where Mitchell Marsh was waiting. Rohit walked back to the dugout with a slumped head and shoulders, leaving the floodgate open.
