Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) celebrated their IPL 2025 title win on Wednesday, and it got pretty out of hand. A huge crowd gathered outside Vidhana Soudha and the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, leading to a tragic stampede that resulted in 11 deaths. The players were honored by Karnataka’s Chief Minister Siddaramaiah at Vidhana Soudha before heading to the Chinnaswamy Stadium. As they left the venue, a mob of fans surrounded them, making it tough for the police to control the situation.
Things got chaotic when rain interrupted the ceremony, causing the players and officials to be quickly escorted away. Unfortunately, while the players made their way to the stadium to celebrate with the trophy, news broke about the stampede outside.
Footage showed how badly the players were mobbed as they tried to leave Vidhana Soudha, even with police there. Virat Kohli was seen trying to shield himself from the rain. There were plans for an open-top bus parade, but that never happened, which added to the chaos.
Gautam Gambhir, the Indian team’s head coach, shared his condolences to the families affected by the stampede ahead of their England tour. He expressed that he’s not a fan of roadshows and believes that safety should come first.
Eleven people lost their lives and many were hurt as nearly 300,000 fans turned out to see RCB on their big day. The Karnataka Police have now filed a report against the Karnataka Cricket Board Administrative Committee, RCB, and others related to the incident.
