Currently, India’s premier batter is going through his talismanic form. He slammed 46th hundreds in the third and last ODI match of the three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka. His teammate and Young opener batter Shubhman Gill scored 116 runs off 97 balls; this is his 2nd ODI ton.
Both the batter smashed every Sri Lankan bowler out of the park and set a mammoth total of 390/5 in 50 overs. In the chase, Indian speedster Md. Siraj grabbed four wickets to his name; however, Md Shami and Kuldeep Yadav took 2-2 wickets each of the visitors and restricted them to just 73. Indian team won the clash by 317 runs, one of the biggest wins for men in blue in ODI cricket history.
During the swashbuckling innings, Virat hit a 97-meter-long six on the third bowl of the 44th over, which was bowled by Sri Lankan bowler Kasun Rajitha. After hitting the six, Virat said “Mahi Shot” to his partner Shreyas Iyer. Several videos went viral after the amazing shot by Virat on Twitter.
Virat Kohli was rewarded as the player of the match and player of the series, too, for his marvellous performance. He scored 283 runs in three matches with a splendid average of 141.50. Rising Indian star Shubhman Gill was the second-most run-getter of the series, and he has 207 runs to his name in the three matches with an average of 69.00.
With this win, the Indian team grabbed the series by 3-0 under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma. Virat was outstanding throughout the series, and looking at the upcoming ICC Men’s ODI World Cup 2023, it is great news for India; they are preparing to clinch the ICC trophy and end the drought. However, the two main players of the Indian team, all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja and Jasprit Bumrah, are currently not featured in the team, and they need to pass the fitness test to get a place in the team.
