In the second Test match against West Indies, Mukesh Kumar made his international debut. He impressed everyone with his bowling and managed to pick two wickets which included the dismissal of Kirk McKenzie and Alick Athanaze.
Mukesh Kumar is the 308th cricketer to represent India in this gentleman’s game and he took the place of bowling all-rounder Shardul Thakur who was injured and was unable to cash in the game due to fitness issues. BCCI shared a special video in which Mukesh Kumar can be seen talking to his mother on a phone call after his successful debut for Men in blue.
Born in Gopalganj, the cricketer was given his Test cap by Ravichandran Ashwin. The pacer plays for West Bengal and he got a chance after performing in domestic cricket. He also got a chance to represent himself in the IPL playing for Delhi Capitals.
While having a conversation with his mother, Mukesh Kumar said, “This is the most important day of my life, this is a result of so many years of hard work.”
After the stump of the Day 4 game between India and West Indies Test, West Indies needed 289 runs to win this match. After bundling out West Indies on 255 runs in the first innings, India declared their second innings on 181/2. After this West Indies needed 365 runs in their second innings but they were 2 wickets down at 76 runs.
