MS Dhoni shocked everyone before the start of the IPL 2024 when he left the captaincy for the team and in place of him Ruturaj Gaikwad will take the role of skipper. After being appointed the skipper of the side, Gaikwad said that he is feeling privileged after getting this new role.

The young captain also expressed confidence in the team, citing the blended experience provided by players like Ravindra Jadeja and Ajinkya Rahane.

On Thursday, CSK announced Ruturaj Gaikwad as the new captain, succeeding the legendary MS Dhoni, presenting him with the significant task of filling Dhoni’s shoes. Gaikwad was acquired by CSK at the IPL 2019 player auction and has consistently delivered with the bat ever since, earning him the leadership role.

While having a media interaction on Thursday, Gaikwad said that he is privileged to become the captain of Chennai Super Kings ahead of the RCB clash.

“It feels good, obviously it’s a privilege to lead the team. It’s a huge responsibility and I am really excited because of the kind of group we have. Everyone’s experienced enough, so not much to worry about,” said Gaikwad in a video posted by CSK on X.

“I have Mahi bhai in the team, Jaddu bhai (Ravindra Jadeja), Ajju bhai (Ajinkya Rahane), so nothing much to worry about. I am just looking forward to enjoying it,” said Gaikwad.

Gaikwad has played 52 matches for Chennai Super Kings where he has scored 1797 runs with an average of 39.07.

Gaikwad had a remarkable performance last year, scoring 590 runs in 16 matches at an impressive strike rate of 147.50. His standout year was in 2021, where he accumulated 635 runs in 16 matches.
