In the 16th match of the Indian Premier League, Rohit Sharma led Mumbai Indians beat Delhi Capitals by six wickets played at Arun Jaitley Stadium. Mumbai Indians needed three runs on the final 2 balls and Mumbai went on to win the match on the last delivery.
During this match, Australian opener David Warner got everyone’s attention by changing his batting stance to right-handed while facing a free-hit delivery. This move was surprising and unexpected not only for the fans but also for the MI players.
The incident happened in the eighth over of the match, when spinner Hrithik Shokeen gave a no-ball which eventually turned into a free hit. This is when David Warner changed his batting stance to right-handed. However, Warner failed to connect it nicely and could not get one run off this ball.
While chasing the target of 173 runs, Mumbai Indians had a great start where Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan added 71 runs for the first wicket. Ishan Kishan was dismissed through run out on his individual score of 31. After this captain, Rohit Sharma took the game ahead with their new MR. Dependable Tilak Varma contributed 41 runs for the team in 29 balls. Suryakumar once again failed for the team and was dismissed without scoring a single run.
In the end, Tim David(13) and Cameron Green(17) played smartly and took the team home. It was Mumbai Indians’ first win of the tournament and they got the valuable two points.
For Delhi Capitals, Mukesh Kumar got two wickets while Mustafizur Rehman grabbed one in his kitty.
Before it, Delhi hung 172 runs on the board but the team bundled out in 19.4 overs. Captain David Warner again shined with the bat and scored 51 runs. However, fans were not happy with his approach as he got these runs in 47 balls. The main highlight of Delhi’s innings was Axar Patel who got 54 runs in just 25 balls with the help of four fours and five sixes.
For Mumbai Indians, Jason Behrendorff and Piyush Chawla got three wickets each. Riley Meredith got two wickets while Hrithik Shokeen had one wicket in his account.
