Watch: South African legend Ab de Villiers gives a special thank you message for Virat Kohli

AB de Villiers, a South African cricketing legend, was among the latest lot of fabulous cricketers to be inducted into the ICC Hall of Fame alongside the likes of Alastair Cook and Neetu David, went through the emotional letter sent by Virat Kohli after he was felicitated by ICC.

Deeply impressed by the hall of Fame Honour conferred on De Villiers, the only person who can be called a close friend of Kohli penned an emotional note to the power-hitter sensation.

In one of his videos that were shared on Instagram, AB de Villiers congratulated ICC and appreciated the letter from Kohli and said that it is such a great feeling that a player like Kohli wrote a letter to me.

“Once again I want to express my gratitude to all of you for accepting me and of course, the ICC deserves a great deal of thanks. It’s a privilege, undisputed one guys, I appreciate the ICC, all the supporters and the fans who have been there through thick and thin. I always get embarrassed with these kinds of things, which is the reason why I do not dwell on it much. Of course, this is a very happy moment and sort of this thing gives me a picture of how much hard work has been done to arrive at such moments.”, de Villiers said in a video that he uploaded on his Instagram.

“This means a lot to me and I am sure it would to Virat as well, so I appreciate the flattering words. What I do take pride in Virat is talking about how I am so selfless and always think about the team.” He continued.

Retiring from international cricket in 2018, De Villiers carries a batting average of above 50 in both Test cricket and ODI cricket, as well with a staggering 20014 international runs which is only second to Jacques Kallis in South African cricketers.

“I strive to always be in a position to contribute everything that I can to the team. And that is how I want to be remembered, and not through my numbers or my records. I want to be remembered as the guy who played for the team, and not for himself. I am very, very proud about that and I will not hide it. That is preferred way of playing my cricket, and it has always mattered to me,” he concluded
