Across all formats, Mohammed Shami is one of India’s best bowlers ever. Throughout the years he has played, Shami gained such a reputation that he became irreplaceable for the team especially in Tests and ODIs. However, many were shocked when Shami was not named in the Indian playing XI during several initial matches of the ODI World Cup held last year. But upon finding himself on board after Hardik Pandya got injured; Shami wreaked havoc with his bowling claiming maximum wickets.
Responding humorously about his game during CEAT Cricket Awards recently; Shami mentioned how good he had played since getting picked hence Rohit Sharma who is Indian captain and Rahul Dravid the coach never debated whether to drop him or not. “It feels like I am used to this,” said Shami in reference to his remarkable comebacks to the team after being dropped initially.
“In the year 2015, 2019 and then again in 2023, I had a similar beginning. When I was fortunate enough to be granted a chance meshed with God’s help my performances were never expected to decline.. You may refer to it as hard work, but I’m always waiting for an opportunity. It is only when you’re ready that you can show your self. Otherwise, it’s only for me to rush onto the sports field just to give water! Better snatch at the opportunity when it presents itself,” he added.
Seeing Shami poke fun at Dravid and Rohit, even India’s coach and captain couldn’t hold back laughter. Their reaction to Shami’s comments said it all.
Shami has not played for India since last ODI World Cup because of injuries that kept him out of the team.Lastly he is expected to recover in time for India’s test against Bangladesh starting from September 19th.
