In a wholly funny footage that has since gone viral, the batting trio from Team India, including Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and KL Rahul, completely forgot to pick up the trophy for the ODI series that they boosted from England. India completed the clean sweep over England on Wednesday, after Rohit’s men pulled a 142-run win in the third and final match at Ahmedabad. As the team celebrated the win, the video showed Rohit, Rahul, and Kohli walking right past the trophy before they heard it was time to pick it up.
“Trophy hi bhool gaye [they forgot the trophy]!” said one fan after sharing the video, which has since gone viral.
Team India thoroughly dominated England in this 3-match series, looking clearly the better side in all three departments. Skipper Rohit could not have been more happy.
“I think there’s a little freedom in the dressing room that allows us to go out there and play how we want. The World Cup (2023) was a perfect example of that. We want to continue to do that. There are going to be games where things do not go our way, but that’s fine,” said Rohit in the post-match presentation.
He really is happy with the team that went out as a group and everybody in the group performed decently.
“Very, very pleasing (with the way the series went). We knew there would be challenges that we could face,” he added.
Without being too specific, Rohit revealed India will be striving to step up further in preparation for the Champions Trophy, which will begin on February 19.
“Obviously, there are a few things we are working on, but it’s not my duty to sit here and explain all that. It is our job, as well, to create some sort of consistency in that squad, and the communication will continue to remain clear.
“A champion team is wanting improvement in every game and that’s what they are after,” he added.
Player of the match and series, Shubman Gill stated that making this century was one of the best knocks because there was assistance early on to the fast bowlers.
“I was feeling good. I think this was one of the better knocks. The pitch was a bit tricky at the start so it’s sort of satisfying. There was a bit for the fast bowlers.”
“It was seaming, so there was an idea of rotating the strike and not losing wickets in the Power Play, build it from there,” he said.
