Rishabh Pant, India’s wicketkeeper-batter, suffered an injury to his right knee during the training sessions in Dubai, just days away from India’s Champions Trophy opener against Bangladesh on Wednesday. Times of India reports that Pant was hit on the left knee after Hardik Pandya’s shot. After receiving some medical attention for initial pain, Pant was seen limping but continued training, strapped knee and all. For the uninitiated, it’s the same “knee that had received some damage during his horrific car accident in December 2022.”
It was also reported that before he left for the dressing room, Pant did embrace Hardik.
Upon his return, Pant was seen having a good chuckle with Axar Patel. Then it was straight back to business as he strapped himself into his pads as he made his way to the nets.
Pant is making his debut in the Champions Trophy. He has been a wicket for them for quite a while now. He is certainly fitted for limited-overs cricket as he boasts a batting strike rate of 100-plus in ODIs as well as T20s. India will be playing all their matches at the Dubai International Stadium.
India will start their Champions Trophy campaign against Bangladesh on 20th February in Dubai. However the spectators all around the globe are waiting to see the biggest clash between India and Pakistan on 23rd February.
India has been the winners on two occasions first in 2002 when they shared with Sri Lanka and respectively in 2013 when they defeated the hosts England in that close encounter by five runs.
