Riyan Parag from Rajasthan Royals had to go through a gauge test for his bat when he came in to bat after Sanju Samson, who had to leave the game due to an injury. This test has been causing some stir, and Rahul Dravid looked pretty upset with how things went down on Wednesday.
The Indian cricket board (BCCI) set new rules for IPL 2025, allowing umpires to check bats on the field to make sure they’re the right size. When the umpire checked Riyan’s bat, it didn’t pass, so he had to pick a different one to use.
Riyan seemed frustrated and tried to explain to the umpires during the situation. Meanwhile, Dravid was caught on camera looking blank and not too pleased with the whole deal.
Former England spinner Graeme Swann commented, “Riyan Parag has just about passed the batometer. A few issues at first, but it seems to have worked out.” Another commentator added that Riyan was likely telling the umpire that his bat had already been checked in the dressing room. It finally got the green light, and he went on to play with it.
Riyan wasn’t the only player facing this issue; Sunil Narine and Anrich Nortje from Kolkata Knight Riders also had their bats fail the gauge test in a match against Punjab Kings earlier in the week.
