Be it the plethora of match-winning innings or the charm off the pitch, MS Dhoni has garnered a lot of admirers, more so, outside India. Even while he is not a first class cricketer of correspondingly long-standing stature, Dhoni’s decision making and reading of the game, make him one of the greatest cricketers ever to captain the Indian national squad. This is not much different with respect to Dhoni’s places on social networking sites. As a sign of respect and appreciation, the followers of the former Indian captain have always been creative in coining some unforgettable and famous quotes and movements. One such trend is “Thala for a reason,” which gives meaning to the Dhoni’s role as a captain.
Dhoni is regarded as “Thala.” In Tamil, Thala means head or leader. Dhoni himself recently responded to the trend of popularity and expressed his feelings about it.
When asked whether he knew about this trend, the wicketkeeper-batter replied, “I do. I know him, but I don’t know why. I don’t know if it’s a joke, a leg pull, just friendly teasing or a poking meme. But whatever it is, I suppose my fans have made it something positive where I am concerned. That’s how I feel.”
Dhoni went on to add by saying, “I’ve got brilliant fans. I don’t need to open my mouth or say anything; they’re the ones if they feel somebody has been asking me; they take care of it. I’m just keeping quiet and enjoying my life. I try to play good cricket, and that’s what matters to me.”
One of the most successful leaders to captain Team India, Dhoni announced his retirement from international cricket in 2020. During Dhoni’s captaincy, the Indian cricket team won the T20 World Cup in 2007, ODI World Cup in 2011, and Champions Trophy in 2013.
Talking about the domestic circuit, Dhoni’s records are equally enthralling. Dhoni has already had the opportunity to lead the Chennai Super Kings to a profound five titles in the Indian Premier League (IPL). It was, however, Dhoni who last held the reins and led CSK to an IPL-winning season in 2023. The Chennai-turned franchise had trusted him with captaincy just before this year ‘s IPL.
In the recent past, speculation regarding Dhoni’s return for the next season of the IPL has arisen. Uncertainty still looms over the fact If the former cricket captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni will be available to wear the famous yellow, of csk franchise in the 2025 Edition of the IPL. For the IPL franchises, the last date for submission of the list of retained players is October 31
