Famous Indian cricket leader MS Dhoni chose Jasprit Bumrah as his favorite bowler globally. Bumrah played a big part in India winning the T20 World Cup 2024, where he was named the best player of the tournament. His excellent bowling during the whole competition helped India win from very difficult situations.
Dhoni was very impressed with Bumrah’s skills across different formats and picked him as his favorite bowler. However, Dhoni didn’t choose a favorite batter, saying that India has many talented batters and they all amaze him.
“Right now, Bumrah is my favorite bowler because he’s really good. It’s hard to choose a favorite batter because we have many great ones, but that doesn’t mean our bowlers aren’t excellent. Every time I watch a batter, they seem the best, but then I see another one and they also look amazing. As long as Team India is doing well, I don’t feel the need to choose a favorite batter, but I hope they keep scoring lots of runs. Still, I’ve chosen my favorite bowler,” Dhoni mentioned during an event.
Bumrah is only the second Indian to receive the prestigious Player of the Tournament award in the T20 World Cup, following Virat Kohli who won it in 2014 and 2016. The 30-year-old took 15 wickets in eight matches with an average of 8.46 and an economy rate of 4.17, making him the tournament’s second-highest wicket-taker.
The cricketer from Ahmedabad also achieved the lowest economy rate for a bowler in a single T20 World Cup edition, with at least five matches played. Bumrah’s best performance in the tournament was against Afghanistan, where he took 3 wickets for 7 runs in four overs.
Earlier this year, he reached the top of the ICC Test bowling rankings in February 2024 after recording his best bowling figures in India, taking 9 wickets for 91 runs against England in Visakhapatnam. However, he was overtaken by his teammate Ravichandran Ashwin and is now in second place. The fast bowler will play next in the home Test series against Bangladesh in September.
