On Sunday, the Mumbai Indians took a solid win against the Chennai Super Kings at Wankhede Stadium. Led by Hardik Pandya, MI pretty much outplayed MS Dhoni’s team all around, ending up with a nine-wicket victory. MI decided to bowl first and managed to limit CSK to 176 runs for 5 wickets, even with half-centuries from Jadeja and Dube. When it was MI’s turn to bat, they had no trouble, with Rohit Sharma stepping up after a rough patch and scoring 76 not out off 45 balls, guiding MI to victory in just 15.4 overs.
After such a tough loss, Dhoni looked pretty upset. After the game, when players were lining up for handshakes, he went over to the umpire for a pretty heated chat. The audio was muted, so it wasn’t clear what they discussed, but the clip blew up on social media and had fans scratching their heads.
With this defeat, CSK is sitting at the bottom of the table while MI climbed to sixth place, marking their third win in a row. Dhoni shared his thoughts in the post-match talk: “I think we fell short today. We knew the dew would come in the second half, and we were in a position to take advantage of the middle overs. I felt that with Bumrah being one of the best bowlers at the end, we should have capitalized on their early death bowling.”
Towards the end, Dhoni hinted at CSK’s plans for next year. He said the team hopes to make it to the playoffs this season, but if that doesn’t happen, they will start planning for next year. “We have some things to figure out, a few catches here and there could make a difference. Right now, we’re looking to fix our issues game by game. It’s important not to change too many players, so we want to get the right lineup for next year and come back stronger.”
