The Indian cricket team faced a tough loss in the semi-finals against New Zealand during the 2019 ODI World Cup. This defeat upset Indian fans worldwide, especially since the team had performed exceptionally well up until that point. Many people still think about how the game might have turned out if New Zealand’s Martin Guptill hadn’t dismissed MS Dhoni. This match also marked MS Dhoni’s final game, as he decided to retire from international cricket a few months later.
Years after this disappointing moment, Dhoni has shared his feelings about not winning the title in 2019. In a video posted on social media, Dhoni talked about the disappointment, mentioning that it took him a while to move past the pain of losing the 2019 ODI World Cup semi-final.
“It was tough because I knew this would be my last World Cup, and it would have been nice to win. It was a heartbreaking moment, but we accepted the outcome and tried to move forward. Time passes, and you get some time after the World Cup. I haven’t played internationally since then, so I’ve had plenty of time. So, yes, it was heartbreaking, but you have to move on. You just accept that you did your best, but you didn’t win,” he said.
Although Dhoni is no longer playing international cricket, he still plays in the Indian Premier League for the Chennai Super Kings. However, it’s not yet certain if he will participate in the IPL 2025 season.
