Watch: Gautam Gambhir visits Siddhi Vinayak temple ahead of India’s tour of England

India’s cricket coach Gautam Gambhir visited the Siddhivinayak temple in Mumbai on Thursday, May 15, ahead of a key selection meeting for the upcoming tour of England. Along with his wife, he prayed at the temple, seeking blessings from Lord Ganesha. Gambhir is ready to lead a young Indian team to England for five Test matches starting June 20. This will be a new chapter for him in Test cricket, especially since he’ll be without Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, who have both retired from this format.

Gambhir is also set to meet with the BCCI selectors to discuss the future of Indian Test cricket. Reports suggest they’ll focus on picking the new team captain and finalizing the squad for the England series. Right now, Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant are the top contenders for the captaincy after Jasprit Bumrah decided not to pursue the role. Gill looks like he might land the captaincy while Pant is likely to be his second-in-command due to his strong performance in international play.

India will kick off their series against England at Headingley, which will also signal the start of the new World Test Championship cycle for the team.
