The dashing start by India in the ODI series against England would be called an understatement. Rohit Sharma and his men registered a thumping four-wicket win in the first ODI, thereby taking a 1-0 lead on Thursday. In Nagpur, England was bowled out for 248 after electing to bat first. Harshit Rana and Ravindra Jadeja, both making their debuts, were India’s star bowlers, each taking three wickets. India had a bit of a slip afterward, but half-centuries by Shubman Gill, Axar Patel, and Shreyas Iyer helped see the type hosts winning in 38.4 overs.
After the match, the Indian team were seen celebrating heartily in the stadium, following which the host broadcaster caught one intense moment that caught the attention of all.
For a few seconds, the camera focused on the Indian dugout, where skipper Rohit Sharma was seen in deep discussion with head coach Gautam Gambhir. From the expressions exchanged, one could assume that it was neither a friendly banter nor a mere chatting but a serious talk about the future of the team.
During the match, Rohit once again failed to make his mark in the ground, getting dismissed for two runs by Saqib Mohammad.
“I am very happy. We knew it was a long time since we had played this format. I think we played right from the word go as per expectation. They had a good start but the way we came back, it was superb. We wanted a leftie in the middle,” Rohit had said during the post-match presentation.
“It’s as simple as that. We know they spin it back into the left-handers. So we need a leftie. Gill and Axar batted brilliantly out in the middle. Nothing specific. Overall, as a team, I just want us to keep doing as many right things as possible,” he added.
