Watch: Family members of Gujarat Titans in tears after their heart wrenching loss against MI in the eliminator

The Gujarat Titans were knocked out of IPL 2025 after losing to the Mumbai Indians by 20 runs in the Eliminator on Friday. Chasing a tough target of 229, the Titans put up a fight thanks to a great innings from Sai Sudharsan but fell short in the end. It was a tough loss, and you could see the emotions hit hard, especially for some family members of the players. Ashish Nehra’s son was seen in tears in the stands, and even Shubman Gill’s sister was crying, getting comfort from those around her.

Captain Shubman Gill pointed out that three dropped catches really hurt their chances. He believed that if they had managed to keep Mumbai to 210 runs, it would have been a more manageable score after their loss in this Eliminator match of the 18th season of the IPL. Mumbai won the game in Mullanpur during a high-scoring contest where the tide turned back and forth, but it felt like Mumbai had the upper hand after Sudharsan got out.

The Titans hurt their own chances to play against Punjab Kings in Qualifier 2 at home in Ahmedabad on Sunday. While bowling, Gerald Coetzee dropped Rohit Sharma when he was on three runs in the second over, and Kusal Mendis missed the chance to catch him at 12 runs just an over later. Mendis, who stepped in as a replacement for Jos Buttler, also dropped a catch off Suryakumar Yadav in the 12th over. Rohit went on to score 81 off 50 balls, while Suryakumar added just eight runs.

Gujarat faced more trouble in the end when Mumbai’s Hardik Pandya smashed three sixes, leading them to a hefty total of 228/5. After the match, Gill said, It was a great game of cricket, and we were in it until the end. The last few overs didn’t go our way, but we played well. It’s tough to drop three easy catches. It’s hard for the bowlers when you do that. If we had kept them to 210, it would have made a big difference.”
