A few days after announcing his retirement from the Indian Premier League, veteran Indian wicketkeeper-batter Dinesh Karthik announced his retirement from all forms of cricket on June 1. His last game was for Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the IPL 2024 Eliminator on May 22.
He took to his official ‘X’ handle and wrote, “It’s official. Thank DK (sic)”. After this, he also posted an emotional note and video.
In the note, Karthik wrote, “I have been overwhelmed by the affection, support, and love I have received in the past few days. My deepest gratitude and sincere thanks to all the fans who have made this feeling possible.”
He added, “Having given it plenty of thought for some time now, I have decided to move on from playing representative cricket. I officially announce my retirement and put my playing days behind me as I square up for the new challenges that lie ahead.”
In the letter, the right-handed wicketkeeper-batter thanked his coaches, captains, selectors, teammates, and support staff who made his long journey enjoyable.
“Among the millions that play the sport in our country, I consider myself among the lucky few to have had the chance to represent the nation, and luckier still to have earned the goodwill of so many fans and friends.”
At last, he also thanked his parents and his wife Dipika Paillikal.
“Of course, to all the fans and followers of our great game, a massive thank you! Cricket and cricketers, wouldn’t be the same without your support and good wishes,” he ended.
Dinesh Karthik has played 26 Test matches for India where he got 1025 runs at an average of 25. In 94 ODIs for team India, DK has scored 1752 runs.
He has played 60 T20Is for India where he has got 686 runs. In IPL, Karthik has played for different teams where he has got 4842 runs in 257 matches.
