Watch: Bizarre incident happened in Ranji trophy involving Rahane and Shardul Thakur

In a freak occurrence, Mumbai captain Ajinkya Rahane was recalled by the on-field umpires nearly 5 minutes after he had walked into the dressing room after being dismissed. The incident occurred during the 25th over of the second innings on Day 2 at the Bandra Kurla Complex Cricket Ground. The third umpire then said the bowler had overstepped. The match witness on Friday had J&K pacer Umar Nazir delivering a short-pitched delivery to Rahane, gloving it to keeper Kanhaiya Wadhawan.

While Rahane left for the dressing room after being shown out, the umpires, to everyone’s astonishment, called back the former India captain a couple of minutes later after arriving at the conclusion that Nazir had, in fact, overstepped.

With the confirmation of the no-ball, the umpires recalled Rahane and sent Shardul Thakur back as Rahane made his way back into the field. Upon his return, Rahane was informed that the umpires were trying to determine if a no-ball had been bowled, but he could not hear the call.

Have you ever seen a player called back from the dugout to the pitch after he has walked off? Ajinkya Rahane was given out, he went out and the umpires recalled him from the dressing room and sent Shardul back.

Per the laws of the game: “If, in the opinion of an umpire, a batter has left the wicket having been under a misapprehension as to whether he has been given out or not, an umpire shall intervene after the batter has left the wicket. The umpire intervening shall call and signal ‘Dead ball’ to prevent any further action by the fielding side and shall recall the batter.”.

“A batter may be recalled at any time up to the instant when the ball comes into play for the next delivery, unless it is the final wicket of the innings, in which case it should be up to the instant when the umpires leave the field.”

Beloved umpiring controversies have broken out and have become quite prominent on the social sphere regarding the game played between Mumbai and J&K. Earlier in the match when the catch behind appeal shouted out by the Jammu and Kashmir team was rejected, replays suggested that there was an awful thud as the ball passed close to the bat, indicating the possibility of edging.
