On 31st March(Friday), the 16th edition of Indian Premier League started with bang. In the very first encounter Chennai Super Kings got a defeat against Gujarat Titans by five wickets.
Before it, an opening ceremony was organised in which Bollywood Singer Arijit Singh took the heart away with his melodious voice.
After the conclusion of the opening ceremony, the captains of the two teams participating in the first match met with the performers. Apart from Arijit Singh, the ceremony also featured performances by Tamannaah Bhatia and Rashmika Mandanna.
When MS Dhoni and Arijit Singh met each other, the singer touched the feet of the legendary wicketkeeper-batsman as a gesture of respect and gratitude towards him. Dhoni responded by embracing Arijit, and this moment instantly became the centre of attention for the fans.
In this match, Gujarat Titans captain Hardik Pandya won the toss and elected to bowl first at Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad.
While batting first Chennai Super Kings scored 178 runs at the loss of seven wickets in 20 overs. The opening batsman Ruturaj Gaikwad scored the most runs for the team with a brilliant knock of 92 runs in 50 balls with the help of 4 fours and 9 sixes. Apart from him, Moeen Ali scored 23 suna.
While chasing the target of 179 runs, Shubman Gill got the maximum 63 runs and helped the team to win the first match of the tournament.
