Suryakumar Yadav has done brilliantly in the shortest format of the game. However, he is yet to prove his calibre in the ODIs where he has performed poorly. The right-handed batter has played 26 matches in the 50-over cricket and got only 511 runs. But the team management has shown a lot of faith in him and he has got a chance in the Asia Cup Squad.
While talking about Suryakumar Yadav. The former cricketer Wasim Jaffer has suggested that he should assume the number six batting position in ODIs for Suryakumar Yadav. According to Jaffer, this strategic move would enable Yadav to express his aggressive game style to the fullest. Jaffer emphasized that the 32-year-old is known for his assertive and aggressive approach to cricket. Yadav’s achievements in the format have been limited. Jaffer believes that the team management should experiment with Yadav’s placement at number six in the batting order to use his potential to the maximum.
While talking to Sports Launchpad, “Suryakumar Yadav has the game to succeed in ODI cricket. He has played under my captaincy and has made his debut in front of me. He has the talent. He started at number four in the Ranji Trophy. So, he is used to that number, even though his game since then has completely changed but he has always been a dynamic player. I think he is just finding it difficult in the transition from T20 cricket to ODI cricket.”
He further stated,”In ODI cricket, you need to have a different skill set. He needs to work on that. I think number six is probably a good position for him in 50 overs. At number six, he can play the kind of cricket he wants to play. Like a finisher.”

However, it would be difficult for Suryakumar Yadav to play at number six position in the team as Hardik Pandya is already there as an all-rounder. Shreyas Iyer, who has joined the side will most probably play at number four. Now it will be interesting to see how head coach Rahul Dravid and skipper Rohit Sharma find a place for the star batter.
