Former Indian opener Wasim Jaffer has given his statement regarding the Indian playing XI of the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024. The ex-batter said that Rajasthan Royals left-handed batter and orange cap holder of IPL 2024, Virat Kohli should open the innings in the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024.
Jaffer believes Rohit Sharma should bat at No. 3 or 4 because he’s great against spin. He added that batting at No.4 should not be an issue for a player like Rohit Sharma.
“Kohli and Jaiswal should open in the World Cup imo. Rohit & SKY should bat 3 and 4 depending on the start we get. Rohit plays spin well so batting at 4 shouldn’t be a concern,” Jaffer wrote.
Kohli has been successful as an opener and scored 400 runs in 9 games at an average of 57.14, with a top score of 122 not out against Afghanistan in the Asia Cup 2022 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. Jaiswal, meanwhile, scored a T20I century against Nepal in the 2023 Asian Games.
Rohit Sharma and company will play their first match on June 5 with a match against Paul Stirling’s Ireland.
