Wasim Akram drops a massive bombshell on India vs Pakistan clash

The Indian cricket team has been receiving a barrage of criticism after the shocking series defeat against New Zealand 0-3, which left a serious dent in their hopes of advancing to the World Test Championship (WTC) Final. India was outbatted, outbowl, and outfielded by New Zealand for the most part but one area that left many talking was their inability to cope with spin bowling. Wasim Akram, a former fast bowler from Pakistan, contends that this is a weakness they can take advantage of and that if the two teams were to ever meet in test cricket, Pakistan would win. Commenting during the first ODI match between Pakistan and Australia, Akram opined that it would not be bad if the two teams met in a Test series.

“It will be massive. It will be good for the game, for two cricket-crazy nations,” Akram said.

“Now, Pakistan has a chance of winning a Test match against India with their spinners. They have just lost a Test series at home against New Zealand 0-3,” he added.

On the other hand, Adam Gilchrist, a former Australian keeper—batsman, noted the interesting aspect will be how Inda copes up with the 3-0 Test series loss in New Zealand, when they come to face Australia in the last Border-Gavaskar Trophy series.

India will be proceeding to Australia for the high profile series after facing an embarrassing defeat against New Zealand, for it was a 3-0 loss on their own backyard, the first in the Test series, at home, in twelve years. “It does (have an impact), more for the Indian players and the Indian team internally. They have to be asking themselves pretty hard questions.

“I don’t really expect them to come out and be pushovers but do however feel that following that loss as well as it being a clean sweep, and I cannot remember the last time they were actually just beaten in a series, not to mention a clean sweep.

“Internally, I think that will raise some questions and then the pressure, the expectation and the hope of a turnaround from such a cricket loving nation, all that will be weighing heavily on the shoulders of all those players.

There are some older players who might even be starting to think twice about themselves. That Indian team is full of some very actively competitive players. It’s going to be very interesting to watch how they come back from that challenge,” said Gilchrist to Fox Sports.
