Salim Malik, the former captain, has accused Imad Wasim of purposefully squandering balls during Pakistan’s T20 World Cup match loss by six runs to India, their bitter rivals. The match took place in New York.
Pakistani batting line-up on, chasing a meek 120-run target, used 59 dot balls to be reduced to 113 for 7 on Sunday in New York. Wasim’s 15 runs in the losing cause came from 23 balls.
“You look at his (Wasim) innings and it appears as if he was wasting balls not scoring runs and making things difficult in the run-chase,” Malik stated on the 24 News channel.
Former captain Shahid Afridi believes that there are problems in the Pakistani dressing room and that several players are at odds with captain Babar Azam.
“A captain unites the group; he either destroys the team atmosphere or forges the team. Let this World Cup end, and I’ll talk freely,” Afridi declared. “I have such a relationship with Shaheen (Afridi) that if I talk about him, people will say I am favouring my son-in-law,” he stated.
Pakistan’s hopes of qualifying for the Super Eight now depend on winning decisively against Canada and Ireland in addition to praying that the Americans lose to India and Ireland following back-to-back losses to minnows USA and arch-rivals India.
