Virat Kohli, the star batter of the Indian cricket team, set an unwanted record after he returned to the pavilion without scoring a run on day two of the first test match against New Zealand in Bengaluru on Thursday. It has been a while since the batter has managed to get big runs and on this occasion too, he failed to achieve a big score and Will O’Rourke dismissed him without any runs. This was a short of a length delivery by the fast bowler that went off the gloves of Kohli and Glenn Phillips managed to take a brilliant catch at leg gully. For the active cricketers, this was Kohli’s 38th duck in international cricket which is the highest alongside Tim Southee of New Zealand. Apart from him, it is noteworthy that Indian Team captain Rohit Sharma features third in the shameful ranking with 33 ducks.
Earlier in the day, India captain Rohit Sharma won the toss and opted to bat first against New Zealand in the rain-shortened first Test on Thursday.
India made two changes with Sarfaraz Khan for the injured Shubman Gill who was not “100 per cent” according to the skipper and Kuldeep Yadav came in for seamer Akash Deep as a third spinner.
The Indian Team Management stated after the toss, “Shubman Gill was unfit for selection for the first Test owing to neck stiffness.”
A persistent downpour meant no play was possible on the first day.
The India and New Zealand series will also include two more Tests, in Pune from 24-28 October and in Mumbai from 1-5 November respectively.
